So let’s pick up from where we left . In our last blog post we told you just harmful is dust for your health and hygiene. Well, now is time for some useful practical tips to help you get rid of this scourge from our homes. Despite spending hours and hours every week removing it, there’s always some more waiting in the wings. At ALO Maids, we have trained our cleaners for months to the highest professional standard. We believe that with the right mix of skills, equipment and dedication, our professionals can help you get rid of dirt in your home and office. It is common knowledge that dust allergies are widespread in UAE because of the frequent dust storms and the general climate conditions. Here are some easy and simple tips to help you live a clean, comfortable and dust-free life!
1. Minimize Use of Carpets
For all that cosy and homely vibe from carpets and rugs, it is worth remembering that not only do carpets allow a great deal of dust to settle in it, carpets are actually a source of debris as their fibers break down over time. This is why we at ALO Maids recommend that you stick to tiles, laminate and wooden flooring wherever possible and convenient. Those sections of your house where you do chose to use carpets, vacuum them at least twice a day.
2. Say No to Feather Dusters
Not enough people realise that feather dusters don’t actually remove dust; they merely move it around the home by dispersing it into the air until it lands in a different spot from where it was ‘feathered’ away. Bears to note that trying to get rid of dust in this way could actually exacerbate allergies and respiratory problems. Instead, the better strategy is to carefully ‘collect’ dust by wiping with a slightly damp microfibre cloth.
3. Use an Air Purifier
Although not all dust floats around the air, there is still a great deal that does. For this reason our team at ALO highly recommend that you use air purifiers to filter the air and remove airborne particles, which is a great way to protect people with allergies and respiratory problems. However, dust mites are not airborne, so you will still need to dust regularly.
4. Beware of Dust mites!
When cleaning around the house of office remember to give a good thorough shake to cushions, sofa fabric and mattress. A good shake will help to bring all those dust-mites out to the surface. Mites thrive on the dead cells shed by humans and animal skin. According to some studies a typical used mattress may have anywhere from 100,000 to 10 million mites inside. Whenever possible, use sofa and mattress covers after cleaning.
5. Damp Towel to Clean Surfaces
When it comes to dust mites, the trick is not just the regular shake but its as important to not allow them the opportunity to settle and make home in the first place. This can be achieved by using a damp tower (or other suitable fabric) to wipe the surface of carpets, sofas and mattresses. Our cleaners at ALO Maids recommend you do this once every month.
6. Reduce cushioned furniture
It is often said that a smart strategy for prevention is better than rigorous measures to keep it under control. Dust is no exception. Even after beating and shaking your cushions, it is likely that dust will find a home. Thing is upholstery fabric not only sheds off its own fabric, it welcomes dust particles in the air. For this reason, our professionals recommend that you minimize the use of upholstered furniture by opting for leather- or vinyl-covered furniture.
