For so long there are homes and offices and malls, there shall be waste. Managing and controlling the waste that is dumped back into our environment is a responsibility on all our shoulders. As consumers who are part of the process, it only makes sense to be part of the solution as well. In different communities around the world waste is handled in different ways: some common methods of managing waste include landfilling, recycling and composting. First things first, do a little bit of browsing and find out how it is done in your city and follow those rules.
Keeping in mind that most of the waste we produce will take hundreds and thousands of years to decompose, it is more effective and much cheaper to produce less of it in the first place. Here are some simple yet amazing tips by ALO Maids & Technical to help you control waste.
Avoid Plastic Shopping Bags
Next time you are at the counter in a grocery store, avoid the use of plastic bags. Shopping bags made of cloth are not only more durable but stronger than any kind of plastic bag out there. Really, it’s a Win-Win situation! Think about it.
Plastic is Bad
Not enough people seem to wrap their head around the fact that plastic is non-biodegradable which essentially means it takes centuries upon centuries to decompose. Why be such a burden on your natural environment when you can help by doing little things like using washable cups for that morning coffee or that workout Glucozade. Trust us, every little helps!
Minimize the Use of Paper
If there was one item that forms the bulk of waste from homes and offices, it is paper. World as we know would collapse, and wouldn’t have come into being were there no paper. Yet in the times we live, there are dozens of ways to minimize the use of paper. One simple tip is to unsubscribe from all that junk mail you receive every day: brochures from stores where you don’t shop and magazines you never read are good places to start!
Make charity out of waste
Whenever possible, donate things before throwing them into the bins. Whether its old clothing, furniture or electronic appliances there is someone out there who might still benefit from things you don’t need even need anymore. Better they end up in a classroom or a homeless shelter or a recycling center than the landfill. Old clothes and fabric scraps can even be donated to a fabric recycling facility. How is that for a #GoodDeedOfTheDay!
These are just some simple ways to reduce, manage and control waste. There is so much more we can do. At ALO Maids all of our professional cleaners are trained in the art and science of managing waste as part of our aim to create greener, sustainable and clean communities wherever we go.
